Rihanna’s stylish tribute and big announcement

Rihanna, whose legal name is Robyn Fenty, performed live for the first time in five years at the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show.

The Barbadian singer reminded the viewers at home and fans inside the grand arena why she ruled the radio waves in the 2010s. The set list covered some of the multihyphenate's most popular songs: “B*tch Better Have My Money,” “Rude Boy,” and “Work” to name a few.

The 2014 CFDA’s Fashion Icon Award winner, Rihanna has long been known for her impeccable style. So fans waited with bated breath to see what the longtime trendsetter would wear.

For her big comeback performance, Rihanna evoked pure power with a red monochromatic look paired with a bold red lip (shoutout to Fenty Beauty.) She wore a custom LOEWE jumpsuit, mock neck long sleeve, and 3D molded breastplate. "I’m so excited to have been part of this unforgettable moment. Rihanna is a true icon, and working with her to bring these stage looks to life feels like a wild, wonderful dream,” says Jonathan Anderson, creative director of LOEWE. On her feet, the MM6 Maison Margiela x Salomon Cross Sneakers. And her two coats were custom Alaïa creations. “To me, Rihanna embodies the modern woman. A pure beauty. She’s also a long-time friend of the house who has been supporting us from the beginning,” says Pieter Mulier, creative director of Alaïa. If Rihanna’s big red puffy coat with the extravagant train looked familiar, you have a sharp eye.

Paying tribute to the late great André Leon Talley, who Rihanna is said to have been very close to, the puffy coat was inspired by Talley’s Norma Kamali Brick Red ‘Sleeping Bag’ Clutch Coat. Talley sadly passed at the age of 73 in January 2022. The iconic Clutch Coat is currently a part of Talley’s estate auction, which is being hosted by Christie’s

And the backup dancers that left it all on the stage? They were decked out in all white: a puffy marshmallowy jacket, comfy sweatpants, and white sneakers. As soon as the Halftime show ended, fans subscribed to Savage x Fenty’s email list were notified that they could shop loungewear inspired by the backup dancer outfits!

Prior to her Super Bowl Halftime performance, Rihanna cryptically hinted at ‘bringing someone’ on stage, which is a usual practice for the grand stage. While none of the performer’s musical contemporaries made an appearance, the Rihanna Navy and millions of others watchers quickly noticed a baby bump — which she made sure to rub — peeking through the unzipped Loewe jumpsuit.

And it has been confirmed! Rihanna is expecting her second child with partner A$AP Rocky.
