Everything to love about Paris Fashion Week

The last stop on our fashion capital world tour is Paris. As the city calms down after fashion week, a hush falls over the fashion industry as a whole because everyone is already at their computer or phone busily trying to find all the best trends of the season to emulate come fall or winter. Paris, as always, fulfills so many different genres of styles. Sometimes heavily maximalist and other times calmer and more subdued, but whatever becomes the fashion in Paris will soon become ‘it’ worldwide. 

Tights, capuches, and drop waists captured plenty of attention this season with designers across Paris working these designs and accessories into their collections. Separate from these designs was the common thought amongst creatives that wearability, rather than show-stopping glamor, was a must. This thought is newer, given the often heavy glamor and detail that takes place along the Paris runways. Celebrities filled in this slight gap by dressing in extremes that quickly drew criticism from social media that there was an eerie similarity between both Doja Cat and Kylie Jenner’s outfits for the Schiaparelli show and how the capitol citizens dressed in The Hunger Games. Therefore, if you’re scanning for indulgent runway looks I recommend looking toward celebrity style. But if you want to venture to Paris with us and discover the trends you might have wanted to try and the ones you may never have thought of, then they are all below. 

Tight-up 

All across the runways of Paris tights of different colors, laces, and sheers found their way onto models and then down the runway. Some were fishnets and others were sheer lace that added an extra design element to the outfit. Brands from Miu Miu to Chanel found sophisticated comfort in these statement tights, proving that tights for winter will be something to look forward to. 

Drop it like it’s hot 

For personal reasons, I hope that this is a sign we’re about to re-enter the roaring ‘20s. Somewhat androgynous in their design, drop waist dresses were a silhouette particularly popular a century ago and they seem to be having a renaissance now. Chloe, Givenchy, and Schiaparelli all leaned heavily into this trend and gave us the Great Gatsby dream we were all hoping for this decade. 

Capuches (or hood) 

A French term for hood; tops, and dresses alike had capuches attached to them or designed to match when worn. Saint Laurent created smooth transitions into these hoods from their catsuits while both Schiaparelli and Off-White styled theirs as accessories. Whatever way it’s worn, the capuche creates an effortless look. 

Catwoman 

Every few years it seems that catsuits make a revival in Paris. Similar to jumpsuits, but far tighter, catsuits can be a perfect party-ready look. Last season it seemed that Mathew Williams of Givenchy was the resident host of the catsuit in Paris, this season both Valentino and ACNE embraced the easy-to-style garment as well. 

Topping the top 

Leather bras that seemed almost inspired by BDSM wear were tracked all over the Parisian runways this spring. Come fall, a leather bra is probably easier to wear out than a lace bralette. Figuring this out, Givenchy, Mônot, and Vaquera all toyed with these styles giving a tough and flirtatious trend for us to embrace this fall.
