Daysha, a light from Washington Heights

The community of creatives is composed of a myriad of energetic individuals. In New York City, a place of millions of inhabitants, everyone fights and strives for the best. New York City challenges you, but it also rewards you with tons of light if you are able to make the most out of it: the light that comes from people.

One of the creatives that has been speaking to me with her aura and presence is Daysha Luz Rodriguez. Not only she instantly strikes you with her beauty, but she’s also a firm advocate of wellness and holistic practices. Her platform counts thousands of followers and her content is pure, genuine, and transparent. Daysha is a creative that is in constant evolution in her thoughts, body, and activities. Thank you for your friendship and guidance Daysha!

The name you go by suggests lightness and purity. Who's Daysha Luz and how do you define yourself?

I’m a Dominican girl born and raised in Washington Heights and I’m 29 years old. I currently work in hospitality as I work on building myself as a prominent energy. I make people feel things. I’m a conduit for wisdom and universal knowing. I'm a connector and an amplifier. basically, I'm dope, I know shit and I keep it real so people like me.

When did you enter the fashion world?

I grew up watching sex and the city and reading Vogue. I was born in the fashion world. I didn't know another world. At 14 I started modeling, and I knew it was something I would always do. At 22, I graduated from The Fashion Institute of Technology, my dream school, with a bachelor's degree in Advertising and Marketing Communications. I wanted to be Carrie Bradshaw.

It started to feel really meaningless at some point after leaving FIT. I changed my priorities from material to personal development. I'm slowly rediscovering my stride in the fashion world and I'm really excited about that.

Where is the perfect place to start embracing more conscious wellness actions?

There is no perfect place or time. The second the thought of bettering yourself in any way comes to mind, you have to listen and act on that calling because it’s most likely when you need it the most. I know I need to be meditating when I'm constantly having thoughts about how I haven't been meditating. I need to start working out and eating better when I notice I'm feeling gross from eating out all week and not moving my body with intention. We innately know what we need to do and when we need to do it - the question is are you going to answer the call?

Born and raised in New York, but has your culture (that goes beyond being American) ever impacted the way you nurture and pay attention to your body?

My grandmother was the prominent energy in my household growing up, and that woman had a solution and/or remedy for everything, all usually made right in our kitchen. I take that same approach and apply it to everything.

What are your healthy practices?

Speaking my mind, even if I may sound "crazy"; offering patience, compassion, and insight when called to; cleaning and organizing my space; eating nutrient-dense foods; moving my body; supplements; expressing gratitude; meditation; hot water and lemon.

Do you have any holistic activities you'd like to explore or cultivate more in the future?

I want to start boxing again and doing pilates on a reformer.

What pieces of holistic culture would you suggest to the creative reading this piece?

Don't be so caught up in everything being "holistic" "organic" "divine" "blessing" - just live your life the best way you can in any given moment. It doesn't make sense to strive for a healthier lifestyle but stress about not doing it right all the time, especially when stress is the main cause for a lot of misalignments. Relax and aim to do your best.
