SZA Announces Deluxe Album “Lana”

SZA’s star continues to burn awfully bright since the 2017 release of her sophomore album Ctrl. The beautiful crooner won her fanbase by speaking to the hearts of young women who don’t fit neatly into one particular box and seem to have a predilection for messy love affairs. Songs like the certified hit “Love Galore,” which features Travis Scott, has lyrics that are a little too relatable, “Why you bother me when you know you don’t want me? / Why you bother me when you know you got a woman? / Why you hit me when you know you know better?”

Even with the five-year gap between Ctrl and her most recent full-length project SOS, SZA remained at the top of the charts with singles like “Kiss Me More,” “Good Days” and “All the Stars.”

The 24-track album SOS further explored the complexities of toxic love and the dangers of having an impressionable self-image. Stand-out songs include “Kill Bill” about an obsessive lover turned murderess, and “Snooze” it’s complete opposite, “How can I lose when I’m with you? / How can I snooze and miss the moment? / You just too important.” To put some numbers to the success, SOS was released in December 2022 and is still in the top five on Billboard’s 200 most popular albums chart, and both “Kill Bill” and “Snooze” continue to hold steady on Billboard’s Hot 100.

SZA’s SOS Tour began in late February in Columbus, Ohio and the star is set to remain on the road until October. But she still found the time to host a free concert at the Navy Yard in Brooklyn, New York last night. The singer posted the airbrushed event flyer on Instagram promoting an “album celebration” that was set to start in a few hours and told her fans to just pull up. Through fan-posted videos of the concert, we learned of Lana. “So the deluxe is like a whole ‘nother album. It’s called Lana. It’s seven to ten songs and it’ll be out this fall,” SZA announces to the roar of the crowd. Lana is an intriguing offering from SZA. Not only is this coming less than one year post SOS, but considering the snippet heard of “Boy From South Detroit” which is confirmed to be on the new project, it’s a wonder if the artist will use this project to further explore a more grungy sound like SOS’s “F2F” or even east coast hip-hop flows like “Smoking on my Ex Pack” and “Forgiveless.”
